Wrestling

Bellefonte grabs win over Clearfield

CLEARFIELD Bellefonte’s Cole Stewart earned a fall in the final bout Wednesday night, as the Red Raiders’ wrestling squad clinched the 38-27 victory over Clearfield.

Stewart (126 pounds) earned the pin in 3:59 to help improve his team’s record to 8-4 this season.

Other Bellefonte wrestlers who came away with falls included Andrew Howe (182) and Max Mondy (220).

Bellefonte will next take on Central on Tuesday.

Boys’ basketball

BEA powers past Mt. Union

MOUNT UNION Jordan Jones netted a game-high 19 points to lead Bald Eagle Area to a 62-55 win over Mount Union.

Garrett Barnhart added 12 points, while Drew Bucha had 11.

Rams win in tight affair

PATTON Penns Valley barely managed to get the better of Cambria Heights with a 49-47 victory.

Three players reached double figures in scoring for the Rams — Logan Snyder (14), Cameron Shaffer (13) and Aaron Tobias (12).

SJCA wins big

BOALSBURG In a game in which more than a dozen St. Joseph’s players saw time, the Wolves made quick work of Williamsburg in a lopsided 75-41 win.

Jack Mangene and Zane Thornburg both paced the Wolves with 14 points apiece. SJCA led 40-17 at halftime.

Girls’ basketball

Tyrone slips past Penns Valley

TYRONE The Lady Rams’ Hannah Montminy scored a team-high 19 points, but it wasn’t enough in the Lady Rams’ 50-45 overtime loss to Tyrone.

Tyrone outscored Penns Valley 10-5 in the final quarter to force the extra period. And, in the overtime, the Lady Rams were outscored 6-1.

Tyrone had 19 free-throw attempts compared to Penns Valley’s four.

SJCA dominates

WILLIAMSBURG Denaya Poston-Cooper scored 19 points and Selena Mann had 18 as St. Joseph’s thoroughly dominated Williamsburg in a 53-25 victory.

SJCA (8-2) will next take on Harrisburg Academy on Saturday.

P-O falls

CLEARFIELD Halle Herrington again lit up the scoreboard with a game-high 26 points, but Philipsburg-Osceola came up short in a 65-58 loss to Clearfield.

Lacey Potter chipped in 19 points in the loss.
