Today in high school sports: Jan. 24, 2018

Everything you missed in high school sports — and isn’t listed elsewhere in the CDT — from Wednesday:

Boys’ basketball

Penns Valley cruises past Bellefonte

BELLEFONTE The defense of the Penns Valley boys’ basketball team couldn’t have started much hotter in Wednesday’s 38-28 win over Bellefonte.

The Rams outscored the Red Raiders 11-0 in the first quarter and led Bellefonte 20-4 at halftime.

Cameron Shaffer guided the Rams with a game-high 12 points. For Bellefonte, Ben McCartney and Bailey Decker both netted 11 points apiece — but only two other Raiders scored, with two and four points, respectively.

Wrestling

P-O falls

PHILIPSBURG Chase Chapman (120 pounds) and Hunter Weitosh (126) both paced Philipsburg-Osceola with falls, but it wasn’t enough in the 31-24 loss to Huntingdon.

The Mounties led 24-12 after Chapman and Weitosh had back-to-back pins, but P-O then dropped its remaining four matches on two major decisions and two falls. There was an unsportsmanlike conduct on Huntingdon in the final bout.

Other P-O wrestlers to come away with wins — all decisions — included Nicholas Bryan (106), Aaron Foster (113), Kyle Taylor (170) and Brandon Anderson (195).

Gymnastics

Bellefonte edges Ridgway

RIDGWAY Ahleah Krout paced the Lady Red Raiders with a win in the vault (8.45) and third place in the all-around (27.375) in her team’s win over Ridgway, 121.775-120.050.

Bellefonte’s Sarah Conner finished second on the bars (7.95) and the floor (8.30), while Samantha Hackenberg was a runner-up on the beam (8.050).
