Girls’ basketball
State College tops Cumberland Valley
Despite trailing by three heading into the final quarter, the State College girls’ basketball team played their best down the stretch Friday night in a 42-34 win over Cumberland Valley.
The Lady Little Lions outscored the home team 18-7 in the final period.
Maya Bokunewicz paced State College with a team-high 12 points, while Kelsey Love added nine points. Jessica Lingenfelter also had eight.
The Lady Little Lions — who boosted their record to 9-8 with the win — will next take on Bishop Carroll at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Lady Rams dominate in 4th
SPRING MILLS Jordan Andrus netted 23 points and Hannah Montminy added 22 in their Lady Rams’ 75-50 victory over Philipsburg-Osceola.
Penns Valley led 48-42 heading into the final quarter but then outscored the Lady Mounties 27-8 in the fourth to put the game away.
Halle Herrington paced P-O with a game-high 30 points.
Clearfield edges Bellefonte
BELLEFONTE The Lady Red Raiders nearly overcame a lopsided first quarter to stun Clearfield, but they fell just short in a 62-60 loss.
Clearfield opened the game on a 32-17 run, but Bellefonte didn’t give up. It outscored the away team 36-23 in the second half, coming up just a field goal short of forcing overtime.
Mallorie Smith led the Lady Red Raiders with 21 points, while Maddie Steiner added 15.
Central routs BEA
WINGATE Central rolled past Bald Eagle Area 44-16 on Friday night.
The Lady Eagles only managed four field goals all night.
Lacee Barnhart led BEA with six points on a pair of 3-pointers.
Boys’ basketball
Rams top Mounties
PHILIPSBURG Penns Valley locked down Philipsburg-Osceola to earn a 42-26 win Friday night.
Cameron Shaffer scored a game-high 12 points, and Aaron Tobias added 10 points for the Rams, who improved their record to 7-7.
Penns Valley limited P-O to single digits in all four quarters. Carson Jones and Marcus Wisor each had seven points to pace the Mounties.
BEA falls to Central
MARTINSBURG Bald Eagle Area couldn’t keep pace with Central in a 69-58 loss on Friday night.
Jaden Jones scored 20 points to lead the Eagles, and Jordan Jones added 13. Mikey Habovick added nine points.
The BEA trio combined for 10 3-pointers, but it wasn’t enough in the loss.
Bellefonte comes up short in OT
CLEARFIELD Bellefonte only scored one point in overtime in its 42-35 loss to Clearfield on Friday night.
The Red Raiders led by four points heading into the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t close out the win. Clearfield went 6-for-7 from the foul line in the extra period.
Ben McCartney paced Bellefonte with nine points.
Girls’ indoor track
SJCA breaks record
EDINBORO St. Joseph’s 3,200-meter relay team set a school record Friday as they finished third with a time of 10 minutes, 12.1 seconds at the Tri-States Track Coaches Association Meet No. 2 at Edinboro University.
The record-breaking team consisted of Julia Cusatis, Myah Chappell, Sera Mazza and Addie Ebbs.
The same girls also made up the distance medley relay team, which finished first with a time of 13:10.34 at the meet.
Emma Youngmark was 19th in the 3K in 12:55.45.
