Campus Corner: State College grad Ben Gingher leads Eastern Michigan swimming to victory

Freshman Ben Gingher was a double winner in Eastern Michigan’s 207-93 romp over Miami (Ohio) over the weekend.

The State College graduate won the 100 breaststroke in 56.87 seconds and took the 200 breaststroke in 2:02.52.

Wrestling

Trevor Corl (Bellefonte, Lycoming) is 27-2 after recording a fall in Lycoming’s 50-4 rout of King’s College.

Corey Hazel (Penns Valley, Lock Haven) split a pair of matches over the weekend, winning by disqualification over Rider’s Wayne Stinson who was DQ’d for flagrant misconduct in their 184-pound bout, and then bowing in sudden victory, 6-5, to Columbia’s Andrew Psomas. Hazel is now 19-7. Lock Haven lost to Rider 22-12 and beat Columbia 21-19 to improve to 10-2.

Basketball

Kourtney Beamesderfer (Penns Valley, Penn State Behrend) is averaging 6.4 points per game, to go along with 4.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.3 steals. She had a season-high 18 points against D’Youville last week.

Cass Book (Bellefonte, Grove City) averages 1.3 points per game and has 17 rebounds, four assists and a steal.

Jess Book (Bellefonte, Grove City) has a 3.5 points-per-game scoring average and a 4.0 rebound average. She also has 13 assists and nine steals. Grove City is 12-7.

Zach Engle (Penns Valley, Juniata) averages 0.7 points and 0.9 rebounds per game. Juniata is 16-3.

Kyla Irwin (State College, UConn) is averaging 2.8 points and 1.1 rebounds per game and has eight assists and four steals for the Huskies, who are 20-0 and remain No. 1.

Taylor Love (State College, Marymount) averages 2.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per contest. Marymount is 17-2.

Bryan Sekunda (State College, Stony Brook) owns a 6.7 points-per-game scoring average and a 2.4 rebound average. He also has 40 assists, four steals and five blocks. Stony Brook is 8-14.

Tommy Sekunda (State College, Seton Hill) has a 6.1 points-per-game scoring average, and he also averages 2.1 rebounds per game to go with 16 assists, three steals and two blocks. Seton Hill is 7-13.

Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh (State College, Lock Haven) averages 5.9 points and 3.9 rebounds per game and has nine assists, nine steals and a block. Lock Haven is 3-15.

Swimming

Megan Duck (Penns Valley, Susquehanna) was sixth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.27 and fifth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:40.54 in a 148-114 win over Scranton.

Seth Erdley (Sate College, St. Bonaventure) was fifth in the 100 freestyle in 11:05.83 against Niagara.

David Rovansek (State College, Washington College) is the Shoremen’s second-fastest swimmer in the 1,650 freestyle so far this season and the third-fastest in the 500 and 1,000 freestyles, respectively.

Nate Woodman (State College, La Salle) was first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:57.09 during his team’s win over Mount St. Mary’s.

Indoor Track

Kylie Orndorf (Penns Valley, Juniata) was 20th in the weight throw with a 12.9-meter effort at the Bison Open and Multi at Bucknell.
