Boys’ basketball
Bellefonte picks up close win
BELLEFONTE Behind 13 points each from Nate Tice and Caleb Rockey, the Bellefonte boys’ basketball team slipped past Jersey Shore 56-53 on Monday night.
The Red Raiders took a 30-24 lead into halftime.
Nick Fisher added nine points in the winning effort. And Bellefonte will look to keep the momentum going Tuesday, when it hosts Philipsburg-Osceola.
3rd quarter dooms Rams
ALEXANDRIA Penns Valley took an early lead but couldn’t hold on to it after a rough third quarter in the 56-52 loss to Juniata Valley.
The Rams held a 28-24 edge heading into halftime, but Juniata Valley outscored them 17-7 in the third quarter. Penns Valley couldn’t recover.
Logan Snyder paced Penns Valley with a team-high 20 points. Cameron Shaffer added 16.
Grace Prep falls
HUNTINGDON The Storm started off strong but couldn’t sustain their momentum in a 70-56 loss to Huntingdon Christian.
Grace Prep took the early 19-15 lead but were outscored the rest of the way by a 55-37 margin.
Three Grace Prep players reached double figures in scoring: Isaac Maas (13), Zac Sechler (13) and Carl Oelhaf (10).
CCCA loses in OT
BELLEFONTE Chad Weaver paced all scorers with a game-high 17 points, to go along with six steals, but it wasn’t enough in Centre County Christian Academy’s 33-29 overtime loss to Calvary Christian of Huntingdon.
The Bulldogs were outscored 4-0 in overtime.
Girls’ basketball
State College falls back to .500
EBENSBURG Maya Bokunewicz’s game-high 20 points didn’t lead the Lady Little Lions to victory, as they fell 53-43 to Bishop Carroll.
Isabelle Leazier added 13 points in the loss, which brought State College’s record to 9-9 overall.
SJCA dominates
MCALISTERVILLE Behind 15 points from Selena Mann and another 10 from Denaya Poston-Cooper, St. Joseph’s cruised to a 41-23 win over East Juniata.
SJCA led by 27 points after three periods. It is now 12-3 on the season.
Jersey Shore bests BEA
WINGATE Bald Eagle Area held a narrow lead heading into the final quarter, but that’s when BEA faltered in a 45-39 loss to Jersey Shore.
The Lady Eagles led 27-26 but were outscored 19-12 in the final period. Morgan Chambers scored a team-high 22 points in the loss, while Lacee Barnhart added 12 points.
CCCA grinds out win
BELLEFONTE Cassandra Poorman guided the Lady Bulldogs with eight points, eight rebounds and four steals en route to a 24-22 win over Calvary Christian of Huntingdon.
Hannah Crafts netted six points in the winning effort.
