Boys’ basketball

State College back on track

CARLISLE Coming off its first loss of the season, the State College boys’ basketball team rebounded Tuesday with a 76-71 victory over Carlisle.

Ryan McNulty led all scorers with 26 points, while Drew Friberg pitched in 23 points and Brandon Clark had 16.

The Little Lions’ victory came three days after a heartbreaking, 75-66 loss to Reading. Overall, however, State College is 17-1 on the season.

It will next take on Central Dauphin on Friday.

SJCA thumps Grace Prep

COLLEGE TOWNSHIP Behind 17 points from RJ Marsh and 10 points from Ethan Khoza, St. Joseph’s cruised to a 59-42 win over Grace Prep.

The Wolves led 31-12 at halftime. The Storm’s top scorer was Andrew Summers, who finished with 12 points.

Rams lose offensive struggle

SPRING MILLS Cameron Shaffer was the lone Penns Valley player to reach double figures in scoring with 12 points, as the Rams lost to Central 41-31.

The Rams never scored more than nine points in a quarter. Logan Snyder added nine points in the loss.

BEA can’t keep pace with Bearcats

WINGATE Bald Eagle Area couldn’t make up for a lopsided first quarter as it fell 83-66 to Huntingdon.

The Eagles trailed 26-14 after the opening period.

Drew Bucha led his team with 15 points, while Jaden Jones had 13 and Jordan Jones netted 10.

Girls’ basketball

SJCA drops Grace Prep

COLLEGE TOWNSHIP St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy shut out Grace Prep in the first half and wrapped up a 66-8 win at C3 Sports.

Selena Mann’s 19 points paced the Lady Wolves (13-3), while Denaya Poston-Cooper added 12.

Becca Seibel’s seven points led the Lady Storm.

Juniata holds off P-O

PHILIPSBURG Juniata pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 54-36 victory over Philipsburg-Osceola.

Halle Herrington’s 19 points, only the second time all season the junior guard has been held to fewer than 20 in a game, and Kyleigh Kennedy’s eight points paced the Lady Mounties (6-11).

Janessa Swartz tossed in 22 points to pace the Lady Indians (18-1), who led by five to open the final period. Swartz netted 10 of her points in the quarter.

State College cruises

STATE COLLEGE The Lady Little Lions started off hot in the 66-43 win over Carlisle.

State College led 45-20 at halftime. Maya Bokunewicz paced the Lady Little Lions with 11 points, as 11 different girls scored for State College.

Girls’ swimming

State College wins big

STATE COLLEGE Sarah Finton won two events to lead State College to a 138-17 win over Central Dauphin East.

Finton finished first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.26 seconds and took first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 57.34.

Other individual first-place finishers for the Lady Little Lions included Meghan Hughes (200 freestyle), Abbey Whipple (200 IM), Tally Brown (1-meter dives), Jodie Challis (100 butterfly), Shea Stuyvesant (500 freestyle), Colleen Adams (100 backstroke) and Aubrey Zuech (100 breaststroke).

Bellefonte earns hard-earned win

The Lady Red Raiders swam to a win over Northern Cambria 90-62.

Boys’ swimming

Little Lions dominate CD East

STATE COLLEGE State College rolled past Central Dauphin East 140-25.

Matthew Brownstead (200 IM, 500 freestyle), Jacob Whipple (50 freestyle, 1-meter dives) and Michael Challis (100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke) each won two events to lead the Little Lions.

Other individual first-place finishers for State College included Luke Hurley (200 freestyle), Matthew Morris (100 freestyle) and Zachary Sherman (100 backstroke).

Red Raiders fall

Bellefonte couldn’t keep pace with Northern Cambria in a 64-32 loss.
