Boys’ basketball

Little Lions improve to 19-1

STATE COLLEGE Four Little Lions players reached double figures in scoring Monday night in the 87-56 win over Altoona in boys’ basketball.

State College led 50-22 at halftime and never looked back.

Brandon Clark led all scorers with 18 points, while Drew Friberg had 13, Tommy Friberg added 12 and Ryan McNulty netted 10.

The Little Lions (19-1) will next take on Williamsport on Friday.

Hot start carries Bellefonte

BELLEFONTE Behind 15 points from Ben McCartney and 13 from Nate Tice, the Red Raiders held on for a 48-40 win over Shikellamy.

Bellefonte opened the first quarter on a 14-4 run, led 25-19 at halftime — and then sprinted out to a 15-3 run to open the second half.

Girls’ basketball

SJCA bests P-O

PHILIPSBURG Philipsburg-Osceola’s Halle Herrington drained a game-high 33 points, but P-O couldn’t match the 1-2 punch of St. Joseph’s Denaya Poston-Cooper and Selena Mann in the Lady Wolves’ 66-48 victory.

Poston-Cooper had 29 points, while Mann had 21 points in the winning effort.

The Lady Wolves are now 16-3 on the season.

Altoona outpaces State College

ALTOONA Maya Bokunewicz led the Lady Little Lions with 18 points, but it wasn’t enough in the 48-38 loss to Altoona.

Lexi Risha added eight points in the loss.

State College (11-10, 8-6 Mid Penn) will next take on Hollidaysburg on Feb. 13.

Hockey

Little Lions win tight one

JOHNSTOWN Robbie Zimmerman paced State College with two goals and two assists — including the game-winning score — in his team’s 5-4 win over Conemaugh Valley.

Cam McCurdy added a pair in the goals for the win, while Casey Wible made the other score.

Girls’ swimming

PV, Bellefonte compete

BELLEFONTE Penns Valley’s Sophia Gerhart led all swimmers with two individual first-place finishes in a tri-meet that included Bellefonte and St. Mary’s.

Gerhart won the 100 butterfly in 1 minute, 1.10 seconds and the 200 IM in 2:15.95.

Other first-place finishers included, for the Lady Rams, Audrey Duck and Anna Butler. For Bellefonte, Natasha Hoffman and Zoey Cole also added top finishes.

No scoring was provided to the CDT.

Boys’ swimming

Feldman grabs 1st place

BELLEFONTE Brian Feldman paced the Red Raiders with a first-place time of 1 minute, 6.50 seconds in the 100 breaststroke to prevent the complete sweep by St. Mary’s.
