7 Centre County high school basketball players named to Mountain League All-Star teams
The Mountain League basketball All-Stars have been announced and Centre County is well represented.
Seven local athletes have been named to the first or second team in girls’ or boys’ basketball.
Let’s take a look at those seven.
First team selections
Ben McCartney, Bellefonte boys’ basketball
McCartney, a senior, was named a first-team All-Star after establishing himself as one of Bellefonte’s best players in school history. He finished his career with 1,098 points and reached the 1,000-point milestone in a Feb. 5 game against East Juniata. The senior is the sixth player in Bellefonte boys’ basketball history to reach the mark.
Hannah Montminy, Penns Valley girls’ basketball
Montminy, a senior, was named a first-team All-Star after she reached the 1,000 point mark in her final season and led her team to success. The senior guard led the Rams in points, assists and steals on a per game basis, according to MaxPreps, averaging 16.8, 3.3 and 2.8 respectively. She also led the Rams to the PIAA District 6 Class 3A quarterfinals in her final year with the program.
Logan Snyder, Penns Valley boys’ basketball
Snyder is the lone Centre County representative on the Mountain League All-Star teams whose season is still alive. Like the other first-team players from the area, Snyder broke the 1,000 point milestone this year as a senior. He and the Rams have qualified for the state playoffs, but will first attempt to win the District 6 Class 3A title. They’ll take on Ligonier Valley at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in a semifinal game in Hollidaysburg.
Second team selections
Lacee Barnhart, Bald Eagle girls’ basketball
Barnhart made the second team as a senior after leading the Bald Eagle Area Eagles as the team’s lead guard. She was a key cog in helping the team win seven games on the season.
Sara DeHaas, Bellefonte girls’ basketball
DeHaas was one of two juniors from Centre County to make an All-Star teams. She was Bellefonte’s second-leading scorer with 9.2 points per game, leading rebounder with 8.5 boards per game and leader in blocks with 1.3 per game, according to MaxPreps. The junior also finished the year tied for first on the team with 2.2 steals per game.
Jaden Jones, Bald Eagle Area boys’ basketball
Jones made the second team after hitting the 1,000 point mark as a senior. The senior guard led the Eagles in scoring, assists and steals with 13.8, 2, and 3.3, respectively. He is the sixth player in program history to score 1,000 points.
Ryan Whitehead, Philipsburg-Osceola boys’ basketball
Whitehead was the second junior to make a Mountain League All-Star team, along with DeHaas. He helped Philipsburg-Osceola reach the District 6 3A playoffs where the Mounties ultimately lost to Cambria Heights in the first round.
