Penns Valley vs. Philipsburg-Osceola football game canceled as Rams advised to quarantine

Friday night’s football game between Penns Valley and P-O has been canceled as the Rams have been advised to quarantine. Penns Valley was informed of the decision Friday afternoon after the announcement that a Clearfield student tested positive for COVID-19.

Penns Valley Superintendent Brian Griffith posted a statement announcing the decision on Facebook, saying that as a result of a Clearfield football player testing positive, Penns Valley had been advised by the state Department of Health to quarantine all players who played in last week’s game against the Bison.

“We are rapidly proceeding to follow this advice,” Griffith wrote. “This number of quarantined players will prevent us from fielding a team, so tonight’s game at Philipsburg-Osceola will be canceled. The PA DOH is still researching the details of this matter and will be contacting our own Penns Valley players who were in close contact with said COVID-19 positive player.”

The ripple effects of the quarantine could be felt beyond this week in the school district. Penns Valley’s game next Friday against Bald Eagle Area is in jeopardy, Athletic Director Nate Althouse said, because the Rams won’t be allowed to practice next week with players still in quarantine.

The Penns Valley Area School District has opened a line of communication with the Pennsylvania Department of Health to determine next steps and how to proceed.
