LIVE BLOG: Updates, scores, photos & video from Week 7 of Centre County high school football
With only a few games left in the regular season, it finally feels like high school football weather in central Pennsylvania.
Bellefonte will celebrate its homecoming by hosting Huntingdon, while Bald Eagle Area hosts Tyrone and Penns Valley travels to Tyrone in Mountain League play. Meanwhile, State College travels to Cumberland Valley for Mid Penn Commonwealth Division action.
Here’s what happened so far:
Philipsburg-Osceola 0, Bald Eagle Area 49 (final)
Penns Valley 18, Tyrone 28 (final)
State College 21, Cumberland Valley 18 (final, OT)
Jashaun Green is back for the Little Lions, after going down with a scary injury against Chambersburg on Sept. 17. Jack Morris and Ian Brandt are splitting at quarterback.
Cumberland Valley got on the board first with a 94-yard run from Isaac Sines. The PAT was blocked.
Cumberland Valley’s Sines hit 33-yard field goal in the second quarter to make it 9-0. Sines hit another FG before the half to make it 12-0.
Morris hit Owen Yerka on a wheel route for 6 to start the second half. PAT was good.
State College’s Quinn Murphy hits a FG to take the lead in overtime, and Mike Gaul snags an interception on defense to seal the road win for the Little Lions.
Huntingdon 7, Bellefonte 40 (final)
Huntingdon is the one Mountain League team that has struggled more than Bellefonte has this season. The Bearcats allowed 162 points and have scored 27 on the year. While that differential is better than Bellefonte’s, they just can’t get push up front from their offensive line. Bellefonte can match up fairly well with Huntingdon hunting for its first victory on Bellefonte’s homecoming.
Bellefonte broke its scoreless streak last week by putting up 14 points against Penns Valley in a 41-14 loss. With a 1-5 record, Bellefonte has allowed 212 points on the season with just 36 points scored. The Raiders hold an 0-4 record on the road and are in the midst of a losing streak. The team has just 363 passing yards on the season and 407 rushing yards.
However, defensive lineman Thomas Korman has 3.5 sacks as an interior pass rusher. That should cause problems for Huntingdon, who has struggled to block strong defensive linemen.
