Week 7 of Centre County high school football finished with a few teams taking a big step forward.

Bald Eagle Area won 49-0 against Philipsburg-Osceola, and Bellefonte improved to 2-5 on the year after scoring its highest single-game points total of the season with a 40-7 victory over Huntingdon. Penns Valley dropped to 3-4 after a 28-18 loss to Tyrone and State College pulled off an overtime victory with a 21-18 game-winning interception to beat Cumberland Valley.

Here are some takeaways from Week 7 of Centre County high school football.

Bald Eagle Area continues its dominance

The Eagles have won five consecutive games after losing to Clearfield 21-0 on Sept. 3. They defeated North Penn-Mansfield 50-7, followed by a 42-0 victory over Huntingdon, then 14-0 victory over Penns Valley, a 15-9 win over Tyrone and ended with a 49-0 win over Philipsburg-Osceola on Friday. Quarterback Carson Nagle found success with receivers Cam Watkins and Kahale Burns, who caught two touchdowns apiece. If they continue to roll the way they’ve been, they’ll be a tough team to go toe-to-toe with in the postseason.

Bellefonte responds in a huge way

Huntingdon couldn’t keep up with a Raider offense that produced seven points all season coming into the game. All of the credit goes to Bellefonte for its 40-7 win, though, as the Raiders unleashed upon Huntingdon’s defense and got themselves back in the win column. Bellefonte will look to carry its momentum over to the Curtin Bowl next Friday against a 6-1 Bald Eagle team on the road.

Penns Valley hurt by late scores

If you lead with two minutes remaining in the game, you expect to win. Unfortunately for Penns Valley, that wasn’t the case. The Rams gave up two touchdowns with less than two minutes on the clock after leading the whole game, losing to Tyrone 28-18. The key was field position and Tyrone ultimately won that battle by pinning the Rams deep within their own territory.

State College shows grit to grind out its 4th win of the season

The Little Lions had a number of injuries heading into the game against Cumberland Valley. Trailing 12-0 at halftime, things looked pretty rough for State College, which was struggling to get its offense going. The defense made Cumberland Valley settle for two field goals, along with a blocked point after attempt. Then after a few scores by State College is the second half, JW Scott and the defense made a huge stop on the road in the fourth quarter. Jashaun Green made a big catch to set up the game-tying field goal to send the game into overtime. After another Quinn Murphy field goal and a Michael Gaul interception in overtime, the Little Lions won 21-18.

Well wishes to Philipsburg-Osceola’s Matt Martin

Martin was injured in the third quarter of Friday night’s game against Bald Eagle Area, and taken off the field by stretcher. we all wish the Mountaineers standout a speedy recovery.
