The final week of Centre County regular season high school football is in the books for 2021.

State College fought fora 21-7 victory over Altoona, while Penns Valley dominated Glendale by a score of 45-14. Philipsburg-Osceola lost to Rigdway/Johnsonburg, 41-13, in its final game of the season. Bald Eagle Area and Bellefonte were idle this week.

Here are three takeaways from Friday’s trio of matchups.

Penns Valley’s offense continues its warpath

The Rams have scored 40 points or more in three consecutive games now. The 6-4 squad began with a 55-0 thumping of Everett, then followed up with a 40-14 defeat of Philipsburg-Osceola and finished off Glendale by a score of 45-14. Quarterback Jackson Romig had three touchdown passes and backup Jarrett Stover had a touchdown pass of his own. Zach Braucht and Micah Good each caught a touchdown pass, while Miles Brooks had two touchdown grabs. Tanner Ilgen (1) and Ty Watson (2) both had rushing touchdowns to get things done.

Philipsburg-Osceola finishes tough season

The Mountaineers fought through adversity the entire year. They missed a host of players due to injury, including star Matt Martin at one point. Philipsburg-Osceola had just 26 players on its roster and many of their starters were two-way players. Going 2-8, they were able to pull out two victories over Huntingdon (7-6) and Moshannon Valley (21-14). Maybe next year, the Mountaineers can regroup and continue to show the grit that they’ve shown this year, and hopefully for them, added numbers.

State College’s defense is ruthless

Everything that could’ve gone wrong for Altoona’s rushing attack — four punts, a fumble and a turnover on downs — seemed to, once State College settled in on defense. The Little Lions gave up an early 23-yard rushing touchdown to Andre Dokes with 7:46 remaining in the first half. That’s all that they gave up, before they proceeded to tee off on Altoona’s rushing attack. Altoona quarterback Aidan Steinbugl went 2-for-6 on passes for eight yards. That’s it.
