Jade Castro, State College girls swimming
Castro broke a pool record in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 55.88 in State College’s 136-44 Feb. 7 victory over Central Dauphin. The State College swimmer claimed victory twice in the Mid Penn Championships on Saturday, winning the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.79. and the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.94, defeating her previous Mid Penn record of 55.76.
Jeremy Whitehead, P-O boys basketball
Whitehead had a big week for the Mounties, scoring 53 points and grabbing 30 rebounds in three games. He had 13 points and 10 boards in a 69-65 victory in overtime on Feb. 8 against Hollidaysburg. Whitehead went on to score 14 points and grab 10 rebounds in a 65-32 victory over Saint Joe’s on Feb. 9. He had a game-high 26 points and had 10 rebounds against Bellefonte in a 55-50 victory on Feb. 11.
Jordyn Steindl, State College girls basketball
Steindl had a team-high 22 points in State College’s 60-36 victory against Harrisburg on Feb. 9. She also scored 16 points in the Little Lions’ 57-46 loss against Mifflin County on Feb. 11.
Kailen Winkelblech, Penns Valley girls basketball
Winkelblech scored 39 points in two games last week. She scored a game-high 24 points in a 63-44 victory over Clearfield on Feb. 7. The senior forward went on to score 15 points in a 56-51 loss to Southern Huntingdon on Feb. 9.
Thomas Hay and Zander Faust, State College ice hockey
Faust had a hat trick in State College’s 7-2 victory over Central Cambria on Feb. 10. His first goal of the game was with 7:42 remaining in the second period to give the Little Lions a 3-1 lead. Faust would be assisted on back-to-back goals by Hay in the third period (15:17, 5:31). Hay later had two goals of his own, both assisted by Luke Janac (4:42, 2:50) in the third period.
