HS roundup: Here’s what happened from Feb. 14-19 in Centre County high school sports

It was the final week of regular season winter sports in Centre County with Bellefonte boys basketball capturing a regular season co-championship on Feb. 14. State College boys ice hockey outscored opponents 18-1 on the week.
Here are some more high school sports highlights from the week of Feb. 14-19.
Basketball
Bald Eagle (boys): Bald Eagle boys basketball was idle last week. They are 8-14 on the year and 2-12 in Mountain League play.
Bald Eagle (girls): Bald Eagle girls basketball was idle last week and will take on Penns Valley in the District 6 3A girls play-in game Monday. The Lady Eagles are 8-11 and 6-8 in league play.
Bellefonte (boys): Bellefonte capped off their regular season with a 61-45 road victory over Clearfield on Feb. 14. Blair Eckley-Jones scored 15 points, Ty Kroell had 14, Gannon Brungard finished with 11 and Alex Ebeling had eight. The Red Raiders finished the regular season at 18-4 and 10-4 in Mountain League play, tying with Tyrone for the co-league championship, Bellefonte’s first since 2005. Bellefonte is undefeated in nonconference play.
Bellefonte (girls): Bellefonte defeated P-O 46-27 on Feb. 16. The Lady Raiders are now 3-19 on the year and hold a 3-11 record in Mountain League play.
Penns Valley (boys): Penns Valley defeated Bellwood-Antis 60-46 on Feb. 14. Zach Braucht had 26 points, Maclain Welshans added 13 and Kyle Niewinski was the third leading scorer with 10. The Rams followed up with a 51-46 victory over Hollidaysburg on Feb. 16. Braucht scored 22 points and Welshans had 21. Penns Valley is 11-11 on the year and 6-8 in Mountain League play.
Penns Valley (girls): The Lady Rams lost 75-18 to Hollidaysburg on Feb. 14. Ann-Marie McMurtrie was the team’s leading scorer with seven points, followed by Katie Romig and Kailen Winkelblech each with four points.
P-O (boys): P-O defeated St. Mary’s 50-36 on Feb. 16. Jeremy Whitehead had 13 points and 19 rebounds, along with Nick Johnson’s 10 points and 12 rebounds. The Mounties finished the regular season at 15-7 and 8-6 in Mountain League play.
P-O (girls): P-O lost to Bellefonte 46-27 on Feb. 16. The Mounties are now 2-21 on the year and 0-14 in conference play.
Saint Joe’s (boys): Saint Joe’s lost 67-54 to West Branch on Feb. 16. The Wolfpack are now 7-14 on the year.
State College (boys): State College boys basketball was off in preparation for the District 6 playoffs. The Little Lions are 8-13 on the year and 5-9 in Mid Penn play.
State College (girls): State College girls basketball was off in preparation for the District 6 playoffs. The Lady Little Lions are 9-13 and 7-7 in Mid Penn play.
Ice Hockey
State College (boys): The Little Lions defeated Richland 8-0 on Feb. 15. Luke Janac, David Lee, Zander Faust, Sam Palmer, Cameron Detwiler, Thomas Hay, Rees Engel and Alex McGuire all scored. State College defeated Altoona 10-1 on Feb. 17. Faust scored a team-high four goals, followed by Jack Messina and Janac’s two goals each to go with Joe Franklin and McGuire’s one goal apiece. State College is now 13-3 on the season.
Swimming
State College (boys and girls): State College boys and girls were idle last week.
Wrestling
Bald Eagle: Coen Bainey (120) and Noah Foltz (189) won gold at the District 6 Class 2A tournament. Gavin Guenot (106, 5th), Lucas Fye (113, 2nd), Kevin Taylor (132, 5th), Jeffre Pifer (138, 3rd), Mason Reese (152, 6th), Cameron Dubbs (160, 5th) and Caleb Close (172, 2nd) were regional qualifiers.
Penns Valley: Ty Watson (145) was Penns Valley’s gold medalist in District 6. Jack Darlington (106, 4th), Colten Shunk (120, 4th), Cole Felker (172, 5th) and Hunter Lyons (189, 3rd) were their regional qualifiers.
P-O: Marcus Gable (132) won a gold medal for P-O in the District 6 tournament. Nick Coudriet (120, 2nd), Scotty Frantz (126, 3rd), Austin Foster (145, 5th), Luke Hughes (152, 5th), Dom Shaw (189, 5th) and Chase Klinger (285, 4th) finished as regional qualifiers.
