Who should be the Centre Daily Times Athlete of the Week for April 4-9? Vote here

Editor’s note: The Centre Daily Times will publish a weekly poll on Monday mornings for readers to choose the Athlete of the Week for the previous week of competition. The poll will close at noon Friday.

Here are this week’s nominees for the Centre Daily Times high school athlete of the week presented in alphabetical order. They were selected by the CDT sports staff via stats compiled by the CDT or sent to cdtscores@centredaily.com.

Here are your nominees for the week of April 4-9.

Braydon Little, Philipsburg-Osceola boys track and field

Little and the rest of the Mounties went to Clearfield for a meet with Clearfield and Tyrone. He took first place in the 400-meter dash by holding off Tyrone’s Kolten Miller in a very close race, winning by .01 seconds on April 5.

Cooper Ryan, State College baseball

Ryan pitched on April 5, tossing six innings while only allowing one hit and striking out eight batters against Red Land in a 7-0 victory. State College is now 2-2 on the season.

Grace Novitsky, Bellefonte softball

Novitsky went 2-for-2 in Bellefonte’s 11-1 Opening Day victory over Penns Valley on April 4. She went on to go 2-for-4 with two runs batted in during the Lady Raiders’ 11-4 victory over Hollidaysburg on April 7.

Kerri Shutika, Bellefonte girls track and field

Shutika won the 100-meter (13.40) and 200-meter dash (28.40). Shutika also won the 100-meter hurdle (19.00) in Bellefonte’s April 5 meet with Penns Valley and Huntingdon. She also went on to win the 200-meter dash (28.50) in her April 7 meet against Bald Eagle and Clearfield.

Owen Irvin, Bald Eagle boys track and field

Irvin won the high jump (5-04.00), the long jump (19-04.00) and the triple jump (39-03.00) in the meet against Clearfield and Bellefonte on April 7.

Sydney O’Donnell, State College girls lacrosse

O’Donnell had two goals in a 19-0 win over Central Dauphin East on April 5. She also had three goals, four assists, two draw controls and two caused turnovers in State College’s 11-8 victory over Hershey on April 7. O’Donnell had four goals, one assist and four draw controls April 9 in the 18-10 loss to Strath Haven.

Thomas Delahoy, Saint Joseph’s Catholic baseball

Delahoy had a two-hit day against Penns Valley on April 4 and drove in four runs in a 10-10 game that was suspended. He also went 4-for-5 against DuBois Central Catholic with four hits and two runs batted in April 9 in a 13-7 victory.
