Who should be the Centre Daily Times Athlete of the Week for April 11-16? Vote here

Editor’s note: The Centre Daily Times will publish a weekly poll on Monday mornings for readers to choose the Athlete of the Week for the previous week of competition. The poll will close at noon Friday.

Here are this week’s nominees for the Centre Daily Times high school athlete of the week presented in alphabetical order. They were selected by the CDT sports staff via stats compiled by the CDT or sent to cdtscores@centredaily.com.

Abby Hoover, Bald Eagle girls track and field

Hoover had three first-place finishes against Huntingdon, Tyrone and Central Mountain on April 12 and April 14. She had a javelin throw of 115’6”, a discus throw of 90’4’‘ and won the shot put event with a toss of 30’4”.

Anthony Fisher and Jason Dreibelbis, Saint Joe’s baseball

The pitching duo combined for a no-hitter in Saint Joe’s 18-0 win April 14. Dreibelbis pitched two innings, allowing no hits, while walking one batter and striking out four. Fisher pitched one inning, allowing zero hits, while striking out two and walking none.

Avelyn Van Heyst, Penns Valley softball

Van Heyst had two hits in Penns Valley’s 10-5 victory over Philipsburg-Osceola on April 12. The Lady Rams senior followed up with a home run in a 10-0 win over Juniata on April 14. She also had the game-winning run.

Branden Price, State College boys lacrosse

Price scored 11 goals in the week in a 16-5 win against Trinity on April 12 and a 16-7 victory over Chambersburg on April 14. Price had three goals against Trinity and eight goals versus Chambersburg.

Elle Macafee, Bellefonte girls lacrosse

Macafee scored five goals and dished out five assists in Bellefonte’s 15-3 win over Midd West on April 14. Her team is now 5-1 on the year.

Kalista Butler, Philipsburg-Osceola track and field

Butler took home a victory in the javelin throw (115-06) and the pole vault (7-09.00) in Philipsburg-Osceola’s 77-73 loss against Bellefonte on April 12.

Sydney O’Donnell, State College girls lacrosse

O’Donnell had five goals, three assists and two draw controls in State College’s 20-9 victory against Trinity on April 12. She followed up with a four-goal game and three draw controls in the Lady Little Lions’ 18-2 win over Chambersburg on April 14.
