Here’s who you named Centre Daily Times Boys and Girls Athlete of the Week for April 18-23

Two Bald Eagle Area athletes were named the Centre Daily Times Boys and Girls Athletes of the Week for April 18-23.

In the boys poll, Bald Eagle baseball’s McGwire Heverly won 52% of the vote (402 votes) to lead State College boys lacrosse’s Leo Vandevort with 32% (246 votes) in second. State College track and field’s Sean Adams had 9% of the vote (73 votes) for third place.

Heverly went 2-for-3 in a 12-2 victory over Huntingdon on April 19, driving in three runs. He also pitched six innings, allowing five hits and two runs, while walking four batters and striking out 11. He went on to go 4-for-5, driving in two runs in a 15-7 win over Southern Huntingdon on April 23.

In the girls poll, Bald Eagle track and field’s Sybil Thompson won 51% (802 votes) in her first place finish. In second place was Bellefonte softball’s Josselyn Nau with 31% of the vote (491 votes) and finishing in third was Philipsburg-Osceola softball’s London Cutler with 11% of the vote (167 votes).

Thompson had a fourth-place finish in the 2,000-meter steeplechase (9:17.66) in Bald Eagle’s Slippery Rock University meet on April 23.
