Here’s who you named Centre Daily Times Boys and Girls Athlete of the Week for May 23-28

A Penns Valley athlete and a Bald Eagle athlete were named the Centre Daily Times Boys and Girls Athletes of the Week for May 23-28.

In the boys poll, Maclain Welshans garnered 72% of the vote (3,801 votes) to win. State College boys and field’s 4x800 relay team received 26% of the vote (1,367 votes) and Chad Muckey of Philipsburg-Osceola’s boys track and field team had 1% of the vote (54 votes).

Welshans went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Penns Valley’s 7-1 loss to Central in the District 6 Class 3A championship on May 28.

Sierra Albright led the girls poll with 89% of the vote (855 votes). Tori Reichert of Bellefonte softball finished second with 6% of the vote, followed by State College girls track and field’s Shannon Mullin, who placed third with 4% of the vote (39 votes).

Albright, Bald Eagle Area’s right-handed first-year pitcher, led the Lady Eagles to a 2-1 victory on May 23 over Central Cambria in the District 6 Class 3A playoffs, allowing just two hits and one run over 10 innings while striking out 18 batters. She allowed just two hits and no runs over seven innings and struck out 18 of Central Dragon’s batters once again on Thursday in the District 6 Class 3A semifinal.
