Penn State selected by PIAA to host Spring Sports Championships Festival
Penn State has been awarded bids to host the PIAA Spring Sport Championships Festival from 2023-2026.
The athletic department will hold boys volleyball, boys and girls lacrosse, along with baseball and softball championships during that time span, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association announced.
“We are thrilled to be the home of the PIAA Spring Sport Championships Festival for the next four years,” Penn State Athletic Director Pat Kraft said in a statement. “Every year, we are honored to host various PIAA Championships allowing high school student-athletes the experience of competing at high-level collegiate facilities.”
Penn State will host the weekend spring championships in June for the next four seasons.
Rec Hall is set to host the boys volleyball championships with the lacrosse championships held at Panzer Stadium. Baseball will be played at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park and softball will be held at Nittany Lion Softball Park and Beard Field.
The university has held multiple PIAA championships, including baseball and softball championships for 11 years, boys volleyball each season since 2005, along with two times during the 1980s and 1990s.
“The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau welcomed the collaboration with Penn State to secure a multi-year commitment to bring these championships — including the lacrosse championships for the first time — to Happy Valley,” HVAB President and CEO Fritz Smith in a statement. “Creating a memorable PIAA Spring Sport Championship Festival while showcasing some of the state’s finest high school student athletes will be one of the first orders of business of the Happy Valley Sports & Entertainment Alliance, itself a collaborative effort with the university and other partners. We look forward to this exciting opportunity.”
Penn State’s Blue and White Courses are set to host the PIAA Boys and Girls state golf championships this fall. Beaver Stadium recently lost a bid to host the state football championships to Cumberland Valley High School.
