Here are five takeaways from Week 6 of the 2022 high school football season in Centre County:
Bald Eagle notches signature victory over Tyrone
The Eagles looked like they should’ve had the “golden” in their name on Friday in their 31-7 victory over the Golden Eagles. Bald Eagle ran the ball methodically with running backs Tre Greene, Gavin Eckley and Cameron Dubbs and took pressure off of quarterback Carson Nagle, allowing him to find Kahale Burns and Cam Watkins alike throughout the night. The offensive line made very few mistakes, creating holes that a minivan could drive through and keeping its quarterback upright.
As for Bald Eagle’s defense, it came up big once again. Tyrone quarterback Ashton Walk rarely had enough time to progress through his reads. Wide receiver Ross Gampe was bracketed in coverage throughout the night. Bald Eagle’s Mikey Snyder came up with another interception. The defensive line as a whole was stellar, along with the linebackers. Everyone came prepared and ready to play. And that’s all that Bald Eagle head coach Jesse Nagle asks of his squad.
Bellefonte has no answer for Hollidaysburg
No points. The Red Raiders couldn’t muster a single point in their 31-0 loss to Hollidaysburg at home on Friday night. Hollidaysburg may have come into the game at 0-5 on the year, but the team played a gauntlet of a schedule by facing off with Altoona and State College — two Class 6A schools. Bellefonte won last week against Philipsburg-Osceola 9-8 and now both teams are 1-5 on the year.
Penns Valley runs ragged over Philipsburg-Osceola
We could actually call this “Ty Watson runs ragged over Phillipsburg-Osceola” because that’s exactly what happened. Watson had 17 carries for 177 yards and four rushing touchdowns in the game. He accounted for 29 of Penns Valley’s points, including the extra points that he kicked. Watson’s proved time and time again that he’s among the elite of Centre County athletes in the 41-14 victory.
Philipsburg-Osceola cannot stop Penns Valley
On the bright side for P-O, Carson Long converted two extra points, Dayton Barger had a 15-yard touchdown run and Nick Johnson reeled in a touchdown on a 23-yard pass from Zack Meyers in the loss.
State College exorcises ghost in victory over Central Dauphin East
Remember how State College lost to Central Dauphin East last season? Well, on Friday the Little Lions made quick work of the Panthers by winning 42-14. Beginning with a 7-0 lead following the first quarter, the Little Lions rushed, rushed and rushed down the middle, up the sidelines and all over Central Dauphin East in the second quarter, scoring 35 points. While State College wouldn’t score for the remainder of the game, the team only allowed 14 points in the third quarter. That was it. Now, the Little Lions are 6-0 and should be realized as one of the top teams in the state.
