Here are 5 takeaways Centre County high school football’s District 6 quarterfinal games
While there were only two high school football games in Centre County, both teams had successful outings.
Bald Eagle Area beat Bellwood-Antis 45-19 on Friday with a strong offensive performance and timely takeaways from the defense. Penns Valley controlled its game in every aspect, beating Mount Union 55-7. Both teams will meet up at Penns Valley on Nov. 11 for the District 6 Class 2A semifinals.
As the No. 1 seed in District 6 Class 6A, State College had a bye week and will take on No. 2 seed Altoona in the District 6 Class 6A championship game on Nov. 11 at Bald Eagle Area.
Here are five takeaways from the District 6 Class 2A quarterfinals.
Carson Nagle has a career night against Bellwood-Antis
Nagle threw five touchdown passes in a 45-19 victory over the Blue Devils. His first touchdown pass went to Cam Watkins on a 28-yard strike with 7:35 left in the first quarter.
Nagle had his second touchdown pass on a 45-yard play to Kahale Burns at the 4:28 mark in the first. He hit Gavin Eckley on a 10-yard touchdown pass to Gavin Eckley with 3:31 remaining in the first half.
Nagle linked up with Watkins on a 48-yard bomb at the 8:54 mark in the third. His final touchdown pass went to Elliott Splain on a 73-yard route with 51 seconds left in the third.
The sophomore quarterback went 20-for-25 (80%) on passes for 401 passing yards and five touchdown passes. He has gone 184-for-276 (66.7%) for 2,540 passing yards, 27 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions.
Jackson Romig has a strong day at the office
Romig finished off with a three-touchdown pass performance in a 55-7 victory over Mount Union on Friday. The junior quarterback went 5-of-8 for 194 yards for an easy finish.
He now has gone 115-for-175 (65.7%) on passes for 1,935 passing yards and has 25 touchdown passes and six interceptions this season.
Mikey Snyder is Bald Eagle’s secret weapon
The senior safety had three interceptions against Bellwood-Antis on Friday night, averaging 22.3 yards per interception return for a total of 67 yards. Snyder had three interceptions ahead of the game and doubled his season total. He also has 38 total tackles (27 solo) and 5.5 tackles for loss.
Penns Valley and Bald Eagle will be a battle
Bald Eagle dispatched Penns Valley 42-27 on Sept. 16. With both teams advancing to the District 6 Class 2A semifinals, only one team will stay in PIAA playoff contention.
Both teams are locked in prior to the game.
“It’s going to be a fight,” Bald Eagle head coach Jesse Nagle said on Friday. “They played us very well down there. It was the fourth quarter when we pulled away. They’re a better football team, we’re a better football team. It’s going to be a battle — no question.”
Penns Valley head coach Martin Tobias looked to soak Friday’s win in before looking into next week.
“Honestly, I haven’t had a chance to think about it. I was focused on today,” he said. “We’ll enjoy this one for 24 hours, and then get ready to go.”
Tre Greene continues to cap off his career with a bang
The senior running back and linebacker has done much of the talking with his play. He had two sacks with 12 yards lost, a team-high 11 total tackles (eight solo) and three tackles for loss on defense. On offense, Greene had 10 carries for 36 rushing yards.
He’s sitting with 99 carries for 802 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns on the season, along with nine receptions for 141 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns. Defensively, Greene has 94 total tackles (65 solo), 10.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.
