Bald Eagle Area softball’s Sierra Albright dazzles in shutout victory against Philipsburg-Osceola
Bald Eagle Area softball soared to a 5-0 victory in Thursday’s match against Philipsburg-Osceola, thanks in large part to sophomore pitcher Sierra Albright.
Albright was the winning pitcher and had an impressive showing, allowing zero runs on three hits while striking out 15 and walking one.
“I felt really good,” Albright said. “I felt like I was hitting my spots better than I was previously when we first played against them and went 12 innings. My curveball worked best. I’m very proud of our defense and offense today.”
The Lady Eagles also had a strong showing in the field, with Kailey Eckert leading the team with 16 chances and no errors committed. With the win, the Lady Eagles continue to dominate their Mountain League opponents in the softball season, improving to 11-1 on the year.
It was just what head coach Don Lucas was looking for from his team and Albright.
“If we go, she (Albright) goes,” Lucas said. “I don’t think that anyone who’s played this game feels good when you can’t get any runs on the board. Hats off to them. We just hit the ball when we needed to.”
Abby Vaux took the loss for Phillipsburg-Osceola, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out three. The Lady Mounties dropped to 3-7 on the year.
“It was definitely tough on the girls,” Philipsburg-Osceola head coach Steve Frank said. “We were ready, we just didn’t execute like we should have.”
The Lady Eagles got off to a strong start in the first inning when Sydney Thompson grounded out to score Eckert. Kendra Uberti singled to score Thompson in the fourth inning, and the team continued their scoring push in the fifth inning when Ava Stere reached first base on a throwing error by Lady Mounties second baseman Emily Gustkey to plate Eckert for a 3-0 lead.
Bald Eagle sealed their victory with two more runs in the sixth inning, with Eckert doubling to score two runners for a 5-0 lead.
The Lady Eagles are set to take on PIAA 6A opponent Williamsport on Saturday on the road at 11 a.m. Philipsburg-Osceola is set to host Hollidaysburg at home on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
