Here’s how Centre County track and field athletes did at the Mountain League Championships
The final Mountain League Championships for track and field took place Tuesday with the league set to join up with the Laurel Highlands Conference to form a new league beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year.
Here’s how each Centre County Mountain League team fared at the event.
Bald Eagle Area
Bald Eagle Area had multiple medalists with Abigail Hoover leading the way in field events. She earned gold medals in the javelin and the shot put with throws of 117-7 and 31-4, respectively. Finishing just behind Hoover in the javelin was fellow Eagle Olivia Taylor, who earned silver with a throw of 113-10.
Tre Greene earned a gold medal in the shot put with a throw of 42-8.50 and had teammate Kieran Jodon finish in second to earn the silver medal with a throw of 42-6.50. Jodon added a silver medal in the discus finals with a throw of 126-9.
Claudia Irvin joined them as a medalist with a silver in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.67 seconds and bronze in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 54.34 seconds.
The boys’ and girls’ teams for Bald Eagle finished in seventh at the championships.
Bellefonte
Bellefonte had several gold medalists at Tuesday’s championships, with Sara Proctor (long jump), Alexander Crist (800 meter run) and Sherman Lowry (110 meter hurdles) winning gold as individuals while the relay teams took first in the boys’ 4x400 meter and the boys’ 4x800 meter relays.
The Raiders added silver medals from Crist (1600 meter run), Gabrielle Deitrich (discus), Madison Miller (shot put), Collin Sharp (100 meter dash), Chase Ebeling (3200 meter run), Logan Proctor (javelin) and the boys’ 4x100 relay team. Bronze medalists included Sharp (200 meter dash), Ebeling (1600 meter run), Proctor (shot put), Caleb Vinnedge (3200 meter run), Zane Hummel (triple jump), Wyatt Lowry (javelin), Ruthann Smoyer (100 meter hurdles), Victoria Schellenberg (pole vault) and the girls’ 4x800 meter relay team.
The boys’ team finished second overall, while the girls’ team finished third.
Penns Valley
The Rams earned five gold medals Tuesday with Abigail Stitzer (800 meter run), Alexis Durn (1600 meter run), Lillyanna Smith (3200 meter run), Micah Good (400 meter dash) and Greyson Kimler (300 meter hurdles) all taking home first place.
Good also earned silver in the 200 meter dash, while Miles Brooks took two silver medals in the long jump and triple jump. Penns Valley’s boys’ 4x400 and girls’ 4x800 relay teams added two more second place finishes.
Brooks earned a bronze medal in the 100 meter dash, while Miley Hubler (high jump), Chamiqua Gentzel (javelin), Gavin Robb (pole vault) and the girls’ 4x400 relay team also added third place finishes.
The boys’ team finished third overall, while the girls’ team finished sixth at the championships.
Philipsburg-Osceola
Chad Muckey was the highest finisher for Philipsburg-Osceola, taking home a silver medal with a time of 2:03.96 in the 800 meter run.
Both the boys’ and girls’ teams finished in eighth place overall.
