Baseball

AA No. 1 seed Bald Eagle defeats No. 8 seed United, 3-0

AAA No. 3 seed Philipsburg-Osceola defeats No. 6 seed Huntingdon, 9-2

Both Bald Eagle and Philipsburg Osceola defeated their opponents to advance to the second round of the District 6 playoffs. The Eagles defeated United on the back of a one-hitter by senior pitcher Tyler Herb. Herb struck out 13 of the 22 batters he faced in the game.

Philipsburg-Osceola won its matchup convincingly, jumping on Huntingdon for three first inning runs, then added three more to build a 6-0 lead after three innings. Huntingdon immediately responded by playing two runs of their own, but the Mounties closed the game out by adding three more in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn the 9-2 victory.

Softball

AA No. 1 seed Bald Eagle defeats No. 8 seed Homer Center, 10-0

AA No. 2 seed Penns Valley defeats No. 7 seed Mount Union, 12-0

AAA No. 8 seed Philipsburg-Osceola defeats No. 1 seed Central Cambria, 4-2

Bald Eagle and Penns Valley both took care of business as the top two seed in the AA bracket. The Eagles and Rams both established themselves as the two best teams in District 6 this season and showed why by earning double-digit victory margins in the first round of the postseason.

Philipsburg-Osceola, however, did not have that type of regular season success but that didn’t stop them from pulling off a big upset in the first round. The Mounties’ 4-2 win comes after the team went 7-12 in the regular season. Their win was Central Cambria’s first loss of the year.
