3 Centre County teams have advanced to the PIAA State semifinals. Here’s what to know

Centre County had four baseball and softball teams take the field for the quarterfinals of the PIAA State Championships Thursday and three of them will be playing this week in the semifinals.

Let’s take a look at how the four games played out and what comes next for each team.

Note: All stats via MaxPreps unless otherwise noted.

Baseball

AA Bald Eagle defeated Karns City, 6-0

AAA Philipsburg-Osceola lost to Punxsutawney, 6-1

AAAA Bellefonte defeated Indiana, 11-5

Bald Eagle and Bellefonte will both move on to play in the state semifinals after six run victories, while Philipsburg-Osceola’s season came to an end with a loss to Punxsutawney. Bald Eagle’s Tyler Serb was dominant in his team’s shutout victory, pitching all seven innings and only giving up three hits while striking out nine in his complete game win.

Softball

AA Bald Eagle defeated Minersville, 3-2

The Eagles had a second team earn a semifinal appearance when the softball team closed out a narrow victory. They remain the only area softball team still playing in the postseason.

What’s next

Baseball

AA Bald Eagle vs. Sharpsville, Monday, 4:30 p.m. at Showers Field in DuBois

AAAA Bellefonte vs. Hopewell, Monday, 5:30 p.m. at 1st Commonwealth Bank Field in Homer City (The time of this game was pushed back due to the weather.)

Softball

AA Bald Eagle vs. South Williamsport, Tuesday, 1 p.m. at Central Mountain High School in Mill Hall (This game was originally scheduled for Monday but postponed due to the weather.)

All three semifinal games will be played with a berth in the state finals at Penn State on the line.
