State College wrestling lone county team to make District 6 Class 3A dual postseason

The favorite time of the year for high school wrestlers and fans is almost here.

On Thursday, the District 6 Class 2A dual team pairings were released for the postseason that gets started Jan. 28, and all three of Centre County’s teams made the cut.

Penns Valley (11-2) received the top seed since they topped Bald Eagle Area (9-3) earlier this year. The Eagles had three more seeding points than the Rams, but with the loss, it kicked them to the second seed.

Philipsburg-Osceola is the No. 9 seed.

With Penns Valley being the top seed, the Rams will host the Mounties, who will face No. 8 Moshannon Valley, on Wednesday. P-O’s match is slated for a 5:30 p.m. start with the winner facing Penns Valley at 7 p.m.

BEA will face the winner of No. 7 River Valley and No. 10 Marion Center on Tuesday. The Eagles’ match is set for a 7 p.m. start with the Panthers and Stingers rolling at 5:30 p.m.

The other top seeds include Bishop McCort (No. 3) and United (No. 4), which they’ll host matchups on Tuesday.

The highest remaining seed will host the four remaining teams on Feb. 1.

State College learns path to D6 3A title

On Sunday, the District 6 Class 3A pairings were announced as the top four teams make the District 6 Class 3A postseason.

State College just made the cut as the No. 4 seed.

The Little Lions, along with Mifflin County and Altoona, will travel to top-seeded Central Mountain on Feb. 1. State College and the Wildcats will tangle with the Huskies and Mountain Lions going at it in the other semifinal with the matches starting at noon.

The winners of each will square off after for a shot at the district title.

No. 7 River Valley vs. No. 10 Marion Center at No. 2 Bald Eagle Area, 5:30 p.m.

No. 6 Central vs. No. 11 Mount Union at No. 3 Bishop McCort, 6 p.m.

No. 5 Huntingdon vs. No 12 Westmont Hilltop at No. 4 United, 6 p.m.

No. 5 Huntingdon-No 12 Westmont Hilltop winner vs. No. 4 United, 7 p.m.

No. 6 Central-No. 11 Mount Union winner vs. No. 3 Bishop McCort, 7 p.m.

No. 7 River Valley-No. 10 Marion Center winner vs. No. 2 Bald Eagle Area, 7 p.m.

Wednesday

No. 8 Moshannon Valley vs. No. 9 Philipsburg-Osecola at No. 1 Penns Valley, 5:30 p.m.

No. 8 Moshannon Valley-No. 9 Philipsburg-Osecola winner vs. No. 1 Penns Valley, 7 p.m.
