5 Centre County teams are in the PIAA baseball, softball playoffs. What to know
Five county baseball and softball teams have advanced to the PIAA State Championships, which begin on June 2. Here’s when and where the four softball teams (Bellefonte, Bald Eagle, Philipsburg-Osceola and State College) and one baseball team (Bellefonte) will play in the first round.
Baseball
Class 4A
Bellefonte (12-8) vs. Indiana (22-1)
When: 4 p.m. June 2
Where: White Township Park in Indiana
How they got here: Bellefonte defeated Juniata in the District 6 title game and defeated Obama Academy in a subregional to advance to states.
Softball
Class 3A
Bald Eagle Area (19-3) vs. Avonworth (16-5)
When: 4:30 p.m. June 2
Where: Bald Eagle Are High School
How they got here: BEA defeated Philipsburg-Osceola 8-0 in the District 6 title game to advance to states as the top seed from the district.
Philipsburg-Osceola (14-7) vs. Susquenita (21-0)
When: 4 p.m. June 2
Where: Susquenita High School
How they got here: P-O defeated Central Cambria 9-6 to advance to the District 6 finals, clinching one of two spots in states that goes to the district.
Class 4A
Bellefonte (16-2) vs. Blackhawk (14-6)
When: 4:30 p.m. June 2
Where: Bellefonte Middle School
How they got here: Bellefonte defeated Juniata to win the District 6 title and advance to a subregional, where the Raiders defeated Carrick 16-1 to advance to states.
Class 6A
State College (11-8) vs. Hempfield Area (21-1)
When: 4 p.m. June 2
Where: Hempfield Area High school
How they got here: State High defeated Altoona to win the District 6 title and advanced to a subregional against McDowell, which the Little Lions won to make it to states.
