Who are Centre County’s high school football players of the week? See scores, highlights

Philipsburg-Osceola’s defense stifled Penns Valley while Clearfield quarterback Xavier Curry scored in overtime to give Clearfield a 21-18 win over Bellefonte in overtime as high school football continued Friday in Centre County.

Here are the highlights from local games covered by After the Whistle, the high school sports coverage team at Penn State’s Bellisario College of Communications.

Philipsburg-Osceola 39, Penns Valley 0: The Philipsburg-Osceola defense sacked Penns Valley quarterback Carter Ironside five times as Mason Marlow got two of them. On offense, Colton Chapman ran for 98 yards and three touchdowns.

Clearfield 21, Bellefonte 18 (OT): Bellefonte rallied from a 15-0 halftime deficit, but Curry’s touchdown in overtime saved the game for the Bison. Cooper Broad scored on a long touchdown pass and Clearfield got a safety to put Clearfield up early, 8-0. After Colton Ryan ran for another score, the Bison led by 15 at half. Kav’en Smith-Kirk led the Red Raiders to a comeback, forcing overtime with 209 rushing yards on 24 carries.

State College 24, Cumberland Valley 14: Star running back D’Antae Sheffey was inactive for Friday’s game, but Rowan Walker picked up the slack by rushing for 169 yards and a touchdown as State College beat Cumberland Valley. The Little Lions went 3-for-3 on fourth down in the second half which included two touchdown passes and a fake punt.

Tyrone 21, Bald Eagle Area 14: Despite two turnovers by Tyrone quarterback Eli Woomer, the Golden Eagles took the close win over Bald Eagle Area. Wide receiver Grady Fisher sparked the offense for the Bald Eagles.

Jackson Millward, DB/WR, Bald Eagle Area: Millward had two interceptions for Bald Eagle Area in the loss to Tyrone.

Kav’en Smith-Kirk, RB, Bellefonte: Smith-Kirk had 24 rushes for 209 yards for the Red Raiders.

Rowan Walker, RB, State College: Walker had one touchdown with 27 carries and 169 yards, leading State College to victory.

Colton Chapman, RB, Philipsburg-Osceola: Chapman rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries.

Mason Marlow, LB, Philipsburg-Osceola: Marlow had two tackles for loss and two sacks, leading Philipsburg-Osceola to a shutout win.
