Centre County high school football continues Week 5. See local scores, highlights

Quarterback Connor Kulka and wide receiver Hank Lustig connected three times to propel State College over Chambersburg 40-0 while Bellefonte topped Penns Valley 27-20 with an 81-yard touchdown by Ka’Ven Smith-Kirk in the fourth quarter.

Here are the highlights from local games covered by After the Whistle, the high school sports coverage team at Penn State’s Bellisario College of Communications.

State College 40, Chambersburg 0: The Little Lions made it 22 straight wins over the Trojans thanks to more than 300 yards of offense and a shutdown defense. Rowan Walker, AJ Fry and Michael Yourey had one interception each to help preserve the shutout. State College led 24-0 going into the half after Hank Lustig hauled in his second touchdown of the night, a 31-yard strike.

Bald Eagle Area 21, Philipsburg-Osceola 14: BEA started off slow, trailing 7-0 in the second quarter until quarterback Gradyn Fisher unlocked the running game. He rushed for 98 yards and two rushing touchdowns including a 17-yard score just before halftime. The Eagles extended their winning streak to 14 games over the Mountaineers.

Bellefonte 27, Penns Valley 20: The Red Raiders had the upper hand from the start after Jackson Long took the opening kickoff 80 yards down the sideline for a touchdown. However, at the end of the first half, it was the Rams who led 20-14 after Carter Ironside hit Seth Fetterolf for a touchdown. Bellefonte reclaimed the lead in the fourth quarter on Smith-Kirk’s 81-yard touchdown run.

Every week, After the Whistle will highlight the players who made the biggest impacts on the field. Here are Week 5’s star performers:

Hank Lustig, WR, State College: Lustig shined with three touchdowns totalling 90 yards.

Connor Kulka, QB, State College: Kulka had four touchdowns including one for 69 yards.

Ka’Ven Smith-Kirk, RB, Bellefonte: Smith-Kirk rushed 17 times for 178 yards and two touchdowns.

Alten Howell, QB, Bellefonte: The freshman quarterback came into the game after Brennan Huntsinger left with an injury. He had eight rushes for 75 yards to push the Red Raiders over the Rams.
