What to know from Week 9 of Centre County HS football: Scores, highlights, key players
Central QB Jesse Muthler connected with Bentley Dickson for a 27-yard touchdown on the last play of their game Friday against Bald Eagle Area, handing the Eagles the loss and leaving them with a 4-5 record as the regular season winds down. State High also throttled Carlisle, 58-8, with Syracuse commit D’Antae Sheffey contributing 134 rushing yards and three touchdowns to improve the Little Lions’ record to 8-1.
Here are the highlights from local games covered by After the Whistle, the high school sports coverage team at Penn State’s Bellisario College of Communications.
Central 26, Bald Eagle Area 25: Bald Eagle Area trailed 19-10 with under 11 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. However, two late touchdowns, including a 60-yard bomb from Kollin Cunningham to Jackson Millward, gave it the lead with 1:25 to play. On the last play of the game, Central quarterback Jesse Muthler hit Bentley Dickson for the 27-yard touchdown to give the Dragons the win in this nail-biter.
Bellwood-Antis 22, Bellefonte 0: Bellwood-Antis QB Bradyn Partner’s 119 rushing yards propelled the Blue Devils to the three-touchdown win. Partner threw to Jeffery Waite for a 37-yard touchdown and ran for another score to make it 14-0 at the half. The Blue Devils defense also caused two fumbles and allowed only 78 total yards.
Tyrone 28, Philipsburg-Osceola 7: With playoffs on the line, Tyrone’s Caleb Whitby returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown as the Golden Eagles trounced the Mountaineers. Whitby also averaged 8 yards per carry in the first half as the Tyrone rushing attack overwhelmed the P-O defense. The win gives the Golden Eagles the fourth and final spot in the District 6 playoffs representing Class 3A.
Huntingdon 35, Penns Valley 23: On the first drive, Huntingdon quarterback Reese Hughes found Evan Edmiston for a 21-yard touchdown. Later in the first quarter, Penns Valley’s Cael Smith responded by returning a pick-6 for 25 yards, tying the game at 7-7. Both teams were scoreless in the second quarter, but Huntingdon scored four touchdowns in the second half to pull away from Penns Valley and get its seventh win of the season for the first time since 2017.
State College 58, Carlisle 8: The Little Lions won their sixth straight game and put up a season-high 58 points in an offensive explosion. State College wide receivers Daimear Coad and Hank Lustig combined for six receptions, 166 yards and three touchdowns. Star running back and Syracuse commit D’Antae Sheffey added 134 rushing yards and three touchdowns on eight carries.

Daimear Coad, WR, State College: Coad finished with three receptions for 84 yards and two touchdowns.
Colton Chapman, RB, Philipsburg-Osceola: Chapman had 113 rushing yards for P-O at the half.
D’Antae Sheffey, RB, State College: Sheffey had eight carries for three touchdowns and 134 rushing yards. He also added a 5-yard reception.
