3 Centre County high school football teams left in postseason. What to know

Two of Centre County’s high school football teams — Philipsburg-Osceola (5-5) and Penns Valley (2-8) — have officially finished their respective seasons. But three other local teams remain alive in the postseason.

Bald Eagle Area (5-5), Bellefonte (4-6) and State College (8-2) are all aiming to make the state playoffs. But, in the meantime, here’s what comes next.

This week’s games (District 6 playoffs)

Class 2A: Bishop McCort vs. Bald Eagle Area, 7 p.m. Friday (Sargent’s Stadium)

Class 4A: Bellefonte vs. Greater Johnstown, 7 p.m. Friday (Bellefonte)

Class 6A: State College on bye

What to know

Bishop McCort (12-0) is the top seed in District 6 Class 2A and has won every game by at least 15 points. BEA is the last seed to earn a spot in districts. ... Bellefonte is the No. 2 seed in District 6 Class 4A, compared to Greater Johnstown’s No. 3 seed. (Juniata has a bye as the top seed.) The Red Raiders are coming off a 31-19 win over Greater Johnstown and will face it for the second straight week in a playoff rematch. ... State College is the only Class 6A team participating in District 6, so it is on bye this week and will take on the District 10 champion in a regional game on 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7. The winner of that will advance to the PIAA first round.

Looking ahead to states

The first round of the PIAA state playoffs is slated to start Nov. 14-15, and the championship games will take place at Chapman Field (Cumberland Valley) from Dec. 4-6.
