What you missed this week in Centre County high school sports: March 26, 2026
State College boys lacrosse had a dominant 15-3 win Tuesday over Carlisle with three players accounting for every score. Bellefonte’s baseball team also held strong Monday against Huntingdon, winning 5-3 with a star performance from pitcher Zach Lehman.

Baseball
Bellefonte 5, Huntingdon 3 (March 23): It was a big game for Bellefonte’s Zach Lehman on Monday. The junior started the hitting for the Raiders in a two-run first inning. Lehman finished 2-for-3 at the plate, knocking in a run. The two-way player also threw 5 1/3 innings, racking up 10 strikeouts to help the Raiders keep their early winning streak alive.
Bellwood-Antis 13, Penns Valley 3 (March 24): The Blue Devils put together two six-run innings on Tuesday, including in the first frame. Bentley Mellott led the bats for Bellwood-Antis, finishing 2-for-3, and crushed a fourth-inning, bases-clearing single. The Blue Devils’ patience at the plate paid off, leading to seven walks and five stolen bases. Hurler Curtis Shedlock earned the win with two strikeouts, giving up just one hit.
Bellefonte 10, Bishop Carroll 0 (5 inn.; March 25): It took just five innings for the Red Raiders to crush Bishop Carroll and extend their season-opening win streak to four. Two four-run innings and a team hitting percentage of .476 helped Bellefonte stroll home early. Red Raider Zach Lehman recorded two runs for his firsts of the season, one stolen base and one double.

Softball
State College 11, Mifflin County 1 (March 25): After being rained out Monday, State College officially kicked off its season Wednesday when it hosted Mifflin County. The game stayed at zero through four and a half innings. Then, the Little Lions scored 11 runs the next two innings and pulled out an 11-1 victory to start the season off on the right foot. Sisters Lily and Sarah Williams both went 2-for-3 at the plate with Sarah also knocking in two runs.

State championship tournament (March 19)
Bald Eagle Area (7th-place finish): Bald Eagle Area traveled to the Giant Center in Hershey on Thursday for the eight-team state tournament. Last year, the Eagles finished fourth in the event. This year, they were seeded as the No. 3 seed after winning both their league and the region. In the first round, despite leading Chartiers Valley by three, the Colts mounted a 5-4 winning comeback. In the first round of the consolation bracket, the Eagles fell to Clarion Area 8-2. In their final matchup, the Eagles faced Shippensburg for seventh place. Bald Eagle Area controlled the match from start to finish, winning 8-2.
Lacrosse
State College boys 15, Carlisle 3 (March 24): State High boys lacrosse had a dominant start to the season Tuesday, defeating Carlisle with a huge second-half showing. Three players on the Little Lions recorded hat tricks, led by Luke Ladrido with six goals and one assist. Trey Combs also had six goals while Reece Tyson scored three.

Zach Lehman, Bellefonte, baseball: The right-handed junior shined in Bellefonte’s 5-3 win over Huntingdon. Lehman pitched into the sixth inning and allowed just three earned runs. Lehman also went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double.
