What you missed this week in Centre County high school sports: April 9, 2026

Bellefonte pitchers Zach Lehman and Cameron Lucas combined to allow no hits as the Red Raiders on Monday took down Tyrone 6-0.

Bald Eagle Area softball also had a shutout Monday, beating Jersey Shore 9-0. Freshman Karlee Fisher contributed to the Eagles’ success, pitching for the majority of the game.

Baseball

Mechanicsburg 8, State College 3: Mechanicsburg cruised to an easy victory Monday off the back of a dominant pitching display by senior Grady Weaver, who had 10 strikeouts through 6 1/3 innings. A five-run second inning and a three-run seventh were the insurance. Weaver and the Wildcats secured the win and broke State College’s three-game winning streak.

Bellefonte 6, Tyrone 0: Bellefonte put together dominant first, second and fifth innings to shut out Tyrone on Monday afternoon. Senior Jack McHail went 2-for-3 and scored twice. Junior Evan Mattern hit a solo shot out to center field. Zach Lehman pitched six shutout innings, and Cameron Lucas closed out the game.

Mount Union 15, Penns Valley 6: Mount Union rode an offensive explosion on Monday in a rout of the Rams. Mount Union sophomore Maddox Hobbs went 2-for-3 with a double and scored three times. Junior Jamon Ranck went 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs. For Penns Valley, Rylan Birge went 2-for-3 and scored a run in the losing effort.

Softball

Bald Eagle Area 9, Jersey Shore 0: BEA scored nine runs on 11 hits Monday, handing Jersey Shore its first loss of the season. Jersey Shore started the year 6-0 largely due to its high-powered offense, which averaged nearly eight runs a game coming into Monday. Eagles freshman Karlee Fisher shut the Bulldogs out. Offensively, seven players recorded hits, and both Raelee Repasky and Kendall Gavlock homered as the Eagles advanced to 2-2 on the year.

Boys Lacrosse

State College 17, Mechanicsburg 4: Led by Luke Ladrido’s seven goals and Trey Combs’ six, the Little Lions breezed past Mechanicsburg on Tuesday to remain undefeated on the season at 6-0. Combs also added six assists, as the Little Lions opened and ended the game on separate six-goal scoring runs to punctuate the victory. The Wildcats will have a chance at redemption when the two teams face off again in early May.
