What you missed this week in Centre County high school sports: April 23, 2026
Bellefonte baseball put up a strong performance against Penns Valley on Monday, scoring 13 runs in five innings and boasting a star performance from pitcher Carsen Henry. State College boys lacrosse also continued to dominate by shutting out Mifflin County 21-0 Tuesday with Luke Ladrido and Nick Kononchuk leading the goalscoring.

Baseball
State College 2, Mifflin County 1: The Little Lions took on Mifflin County on Monday night. This game served as a rematch after the two teams met at the beginning of the season and ended with a Huskies 2-1 victory. Both defenses dominated this game, and the first run didn’t come until the fifth inning. State College pitcher Michael Yourey threw 92 pitches and played six innings.
Bellefonte 13, Penns Valley 0 (5 inn.): The Red Raiders’ offense exploded in a mercy-rule victory over the Rams. Bellefonte’s offense scored eight runs in the first two innings on Monday en route to a dominant win. Junior Parker VonGunden went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, and senior Oliver Thornburg went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles that drove in three runs. Starting pitcher Carsen Henry went all five innings for Bellefonte, allowing only three hits and striking out eight. For Penns Valley, Rylan Birge went 1-for-2 with a single and a walk.

Softball
Bellefonte 6, Penns Valley 1: Bellefonte looked to break its three-game home losing streak as it matched up against Penns Valley on Monday. Bellefonte ran in the first score of the game in the second inning when Ella Herr was batted in by Sloan Moore. Avoiding the shutout, the Rams got Taylor Homan home on a single in the fourth inning. Bellefonte’s defense otherwise kept the Rams scoreless, with a final run by Bellefonte’s Adrienne Masullo to cement the score at 6-1.

Lacrosse
State College boys 21, Mifflin County 0: State High boys lacrosse was unstoppable Tuesday night vs. Mifflin County, shutting out the Rams. The Little Lions were led by juniors Luke Ladrido with five goals and Nick Kononchuk with four. State College was dominant from the opening whistle, scoring 10 goals in the first quarter, with an impressive shooting percentage of 0.525 on the game.
Bellefonte boys 14, Mifflinburg 1: Bellefonte boys lacrosse’s offense was in full control through the game Tuesday, with multiple players finding the back of the net. Gunther Kull and Aiden Reed each recorded hat tricks in this game. Nathaniel Cherinka, Nash Weaver and Brennan Huntsinger added a collective eight goals helping the Red Raiders build a gap that the Wildcats could not close.
