State College’s Eaton helps Dickinson swim to victory

Sam Eaton played a key role in Dickinson’s 179-82 swimming victory over Scranton on Saturday.

Eaton, a State College graduate, won two events and swam on the winning 200-yard medley relay team in the meet.

His time in the 100 breaststroke was 1 minute, 0.45 seconds and 2:16.01 in the 200 breaststroke. He also swam on the 200 medley relay team that won in 1:39.92.

Football

Michael John (Philipsburg-Osceola, Juniata) finished his senior season with 18 yards on eight carries. Juniata lost to Susquehanna 24-17 to finish 3-7.

Kyle Lanich (P-O, Juniata) played on the offensive line against Susquehanna.

Kurt Walker (P-O, Shippensburg) wrapped up his career at Shippensburg with 16 tackles, nine solo, 6 1/2 tackles for loss for 32 yards, 4 1/2 sacks for 28 yards, two passes broken up, two passes defended, and three quarterback hurries in his senior year. Shippensburg blew out Mercyhurst Saturday 69-20 to finish 8-3.

Curtis Matsko (P-O, Shippensburg) had seven tackles, four solo, 1 1/2 tackles for loss for six yards, one-half sack for five yards, two passes broken up, two passes defended and one fumble recovery.

Alex Boumerhi (P-O, Lock Haven) wound up as the Bald Eagles’ leading scorer with 55 points on nine field goals and 28 PATs. Lock Haven closed at 2-9 after losing to California of Pa., 56-24.

Cameron Tobias (Penns Valley, Lock Haven) had two completions in five attempts for 28 yards and a touchdown.

Jon Cox (State College, Franklin & Marshall) finished his career with five solo tackles and 14 assists in his senior year. He had 1 1/2 sacks this year, 2 1/2 tackles for loss for three yards and one fumble recovered. F&M finished 6-4.

Taylor Collison (Penns Valley, F&M) gained 22 yards on six carries.

Aaron Mason (P-O, Thiel) has 12 solo tackles and four assists, one interception for 17 yards and one pass defended. Thiel wound up 2-8.

David Gordeuk (State College, Navy) has five solo tackles and three assists. Navy is 8-1.

Soccer

Jordyn Powell (P-O, Misericordia) had two assists for the season. Misericordia lost 2-1 to Roger Williams in the NCAA Division III first round to finish 15-4-2.

Volleyball

Randi Leath (State College, DePaul) has 109 kills on .307 hitting with 17 aces, 44 digs and 88 blocks. The Blue Demons are 16-13.

Taylor Leath (State College, North Carolina) has 168 kills on .225 hitting with two aces, 77 digs and 46 blocks. The No. 22 Tar Heels (22-8) have won nine matches in a row.

Megan Flick (BEA, Lock Haven) has 342 kills, 53 assists, 16 aces, 306 digs and 52 blocks. Lock Haven is 21-12 and seeded fourth in the PSAC tournament and will meet top-seeded Pitt-Johnstown on Tuesday.

Suzanne Horner (State College, Iowa State) has three kills, 78 assists, seven aces and 37 digs. Iowa State is 16-7.

Emma Weakland (State College, Winthrop) has 215 kills, two assists, 31 digs and 44 blocks. Winthrop will play in the Big South tournament Thursday with a 13-17 record.

Christine Irwin (State College, Juniata) finished her season with 36 kills, an assist, 17 aces, 85 digs and three blocks. Juniata’s season came to a close Sunday with a 3-1 loss to Wittenberg in the NCAA Division III Regional finals. Juniata’s final record is 33-3.

Tara Neideigh (State College, Juniata) ended the year with three assists, nine aces and 124 digs.

Field hockey

Brenna Boehman (State College, Haverford) finished her senior year with four goals and two assists. Haverford finished at 11-7.

Brittany Meier (State College, Juniata) was named to the Landmark Conference second team. She had three goals and four assists in her senior season.

CROSS COUNTRY

John Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) placed ninth in the NCAA Mideast Regional in 25 minutes, 45 seconds to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship meet. A total of 371 runners ran in the regional.

Jason Doll (State College, Delaware Valley) ran his last race in 33:16.3 to place 348th in the Mideast Regional.

Hannah Grubb (State College, Texas) finished 17th out of 139 runners in 20:27 at the NCAA South Central Regional meet. She was the second-fastest Longhorn runner, helping Texas finish second and qualify for the NCAA Championships. She also ran a 22:02.6 in the Pre-national Invitational last month.

Swimming

Gwendolyn Lowery (Bellefonte, PSU-Behrend) won a pair of events and was on the winning 400 medley relay team that lost to Baldwin-Wallace 135-127. She won the 200 freestyle in 2:02.25 and the 100 butterfly in 1:02.29. The winning time in the 400 freestyle relay was 4:04.96. She also swam on the 400 medley relay team that finished second.

Marie Gingher (State College, Gettysburg) was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.83 and third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.68 in a tri-meet in which Gettysburg beat both Susquehanna and Messiah.

Wrestling

Leo Wortman (Bellefonte, Stevens Tech) improved to 6-2 at 157 pounds.
