Penns Valley rolls past BEA

Offseason training and practice can be vital to a player’s success.

Penns Valley girls’ basketball coach Karen McCaffrey made sure to mention the hard work put in by senior Mackenzie Ironside since the final game of her junior season.

In the opening game of the 2015-16 season Tuesday night, Ironside posted 19 points to lead Penns Valley to a 50-8 victory over Bald Eagle Area.

“These are the types of games she’s capable of playing every night,” McCaffrey said of Ironside’s performance.

Ironside finished the game with seven field goals and was 3 of 4 on free throws.

McCaffrey was impressed with the team’s defensive effort, too.

“We work very hard on man defense,” she said.

That defense allowed the Lady Rams to enter halftime with a 32-5 lead.

The Lady Rams’ next game is Wednesday against Juniata Valley, and BEA travels to Philipsburg-Osceola on Friday.
