Penns Valley, St Joseph’s wrestle at Sheetz Holiday Classic
Both Penns Valley and Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy wrestling competed at the Sheetz Holiday Classic at Penn Cambria on Friday and Saturday. The Rams finished ninth overall, while the Wolves were 34th out of 35 participating teams.
Penns Valley’s weekend was highlighted by five placewinners.
Curt Decker led the way for the Rams, placing second in the 145 pound bracket. Darren Yearick finished third in the 120, while Jared Hurd was sixth in the 152. Jared Bressler and Logan Johnson recorded seventh place marks in the 220 and 285, respectively.
SJCA had three representatives — Jacob Powers, Max Wortman and Leo Bomboy. Powers placed well, defeating two foes before falling in the quarterfinals at 106 pounds.
Powers ended up placing fifth in his weight class.
Penns Valley’s next match is Tuesday at Philipsburg-Osceola. SJCA next competes in the Mount Mat Madness in Baltimore on Dec. 28 and 29.
