State College falls to Cumberland Valley in girls’ basketball

Despite a prolific night by the entire team from the foul line, State College fell to Cumberland Valley 42-30 Tuesday night.

The Lady Little Lions (10-3, 5-3 Mid Penn Conference) made just five field goals, but finished 20 for 22 from the foul line. Kyla Irwin’s 15 points, including an 11 for 12 showing from the charity stripe, led the way. Addie Orndorff added 10 points.

Kelly Jekot’s 15 points paced the Eagles (14-1), who took just four free throws and entered the game No. 2 in the state in this week’s Pennlive.com Class AAAA poll. They were No. 1 when they beat State College 50-34 in mid-December.

“The last time we played them we laid down and died,” coach Bethany Irwin said. “That was a thorn in my side, and it has been a thorn in their side too.”
