Penns Valley girls’ basketball earns share of league title

The Penns Valley girls’ basketball team beat Tyrone 56-50 on Friday to earn at least a share of the Mountain League title.

“I’m so proud of this team this year,” Penns Valley coach Karen McCaffrey said. “... They played so unselfishly.”

Maci Ilgen led the Lady Rams with 13 points and Karli Ripka added 10. Kourtney Beamesderfer and Peyton Homan each had eight points.

Tyrone’s Kasey Engle scored a game-high 29 points.

McCaffrey said Ripka did a nice job defending the Lady Golden Eagles’ prolific scorer.

“Kasey Engle is capable of putting up as many points as she wants,” McCaffrey said.

Tyrone can clinch a share of the league title with a win over Bald Eagle Area on Monday.

Penns Valley (17-4) plays at Southern Huntingdon on Wednesday.
