Penns Valley earns No. 3 seedsfor boys’, girls’ district tournaments
Penns Valley’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams earned third-place seeds for the District 6 tournament in brackets announced Monday.
The Lady Rams hold a 17-4 record and earned a share of the Mountian League title after a 56-50 victory over Tyrone, with which they will share the title. With a first-round bye, Penns Valley will face either No. 6 Central or No. 11 Purchase Line in the Class AA quarterfinals on Feb. 18. The time and place for the game has not yet been determined.
Philipsburg-Osceola will join the Lady Rams with a 13th seed in AA. The Lady Mounties will face No. 4 Central Cambria on Feb. 16 at Bishop Carroll.
The Penns Valley boys (16-4) also will have a first-round bye. The Rams will play Feb. 18 against No. 6 Juniata or No. 11 Central. The time and place is undetermined.
To move on to the PIAA tournament, the boys must land in the top four while girls need a top-three finish.
The St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy boys’ will represent the county in Class A play. The Wolves are seeded eighth and need a top-three finish to advance to states. Their first game will be on Monday against Portage at Tyrone at 7:30 p.m.
The Class AAA and AAAA brackets are expected to be released later this week, with games as early as Feb. 20. The finals for both boys in girls in both classes will be played Feb. 27 at Mount Aloysius College.
