Seeds set for District 6 Class AA wrestling
Penns Valley will be the lone Centre County school competing as a team in the District 6 Class AA wrestling tournament.
Ram wrestlers learned their seeds on Tuesday for the tournament. It is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday and finish up Saturday evening inside Altoona High School’s Fieldhouse.
“We’re excited to get this postseason going,” Penns Valley coach Joel Brinker said. “It’s always a fun part of the year. It’s kind of like a new season because everyone is 0-0 and a lot of crazy things happen at the district tournament.”
Darren Yearick is the highest ranked Ram, with four wrestlers seeded in the top five and eight ranked in the top 10.
Yearick is the No. 1 seed at 113 pounds. Career wins leader Curtis Decker is No. 2 at 138 pounds. At 145, Jared Hurd earned a No. 3 seed. Allen Cain earned the fourth seed at 170.
The other Rams seeded in the top 10 are Baylor Shunk (No. 9, 106), Isaac Bierly (No. 7, 132), Logan Johnson (No. 9, 220) and Jared Bressler (No. 7, 285).
St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy will have two individuals in the tournament. Jacob Powers (No. 6, 106) and Leo Bomboy (No. 12, 170) will represent the Wolves.
