Penns Valley’s Yearick pinned in finals at Class AA regionals
Penns Valley teammates Darren Yearick and Jared Hurd qualified for the PIAA Championships after their performances at the Class AA Southwest Regional Tournament on Saturday.
Yearick (113) was pinned by Gavin Teasdale of Jefferson-Morgan in 1:49 in the final round.
“He just ran into a hammer of a returning state champ,” said Penns Valley coach Joel Brinker. “The kid was really tough, he’s never been beat. Hopefully (Darren) learns from it.”
Hurd, also wrestling for Penns Valley in the tournament, beat Somerset’s Austin Hemminger in a 7-3 decision at 145 pounds for a fifth-place finish.
“Jared ended the day with a nice win,” said Brinker. “We’re very happy and proud of them both.”
St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy’s 113-pounder Jacob Powers also wrestled Saturday, losing in an 8-3 decision to Mount Pleasant’s Doug Bittner in the third consolation round.
