Van Dyke, Brooks lead Little Lions at PIAA swimming championships

On the first day of the PIAA Championships, State College had two top-15 individual finishes and a 16th-place finish for the 200-yard medley relay team.

Tobias Van Dyke highlighted the day for the Little Lions with a 12th-place finish in the 200 freestyle. His time of 1:41.80 was a season-best. Upper Dublin’s Michael Jensen won with a 1:33.90, a new PIAA record.

State College’s Nick Brooks finished 15th in the 1-meter diving with a score of 379.85. Penn Trafford’s Joe Ference won the event with a 524.05.

The 200 medley relay team of Filip Turecky, Benjamin Gingher, Jordan Hillsley and Matt Morris finished with a time of 1:37.05.

State College is currently tied for 33rd place in Class AAA with Exeter Township with nine points. La Salle College leads with 138.

The Little Lions will continue to compete in the tournament Thursday.
