State College boys’ tennis team opens season with win

In the State College boys’ tennis team’s opening match of the season, the Little Lions rolled to a 5-0 victory over Mechanicsburg on Monday.

In singles, Matt Wherley, Nick Vanden, Fernando Del Castillo each earned wins. State College duo Owen Lloyd and Terrence Li earned a victory at No. 1 doubles, and the Little Lions team of Jack Craig and Matt Bristol won at No. 2 doubles.

“This was a nice way for our guys to start the season,” Little Lions coach Jane Borden said. “We’ve got a lot of young guys in the lineup, but they handled themselves like upperclassmen today.”

State College will host Central Dauphin East on Wednesday.
