Jumpers, throwers lead Lady Mounties in track & field
Philipsburg-Osceola used its dominance in the field events to overcome a deficit on the track to take Thursday’s meet 75-69 over St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy.
Lady Mounties swept the jumping and throwing events to eke out the victory. Celena Garcia posted wins in the pole vault (7 feet), high jump (4-4) and triple jump (31-2), while teammate Lisa Heginbothem recorded a 12-9 mark to take the long jump.
The Lady Wolves built a lead on the track with fleet finishes by Mary Elliot and Julia Cusatis. In the 100-meter dash, Elliot crossed first at 13.46 seconds and took the 200-meter dash in 28.56. Cusatis took the 1,600-meter run in 5:40 and the 800 in 2:37.21.
