The State College boys’ volleyball team earned its first win of the season on Thursday night, shutting out host Carlisle 25-15, 25-20, 25-23.
“Gabe Avillion had a really strong serving night for us,” State College coach Kim-Li Kimel said. “We also had a freshman step up filling in for an injured player.”
That freshman, Quinn Williams, wrapped up the win with an ace. Williams, Avillion’s cousin, also had 13 digs.
Avillion led the way with 24 kills, four aces and a pair of blocks. Walker Stone added 20 assists, five kills and two aces, while Brandon Kuruzovich chipped in 13 assists.

“We were a bit more offensive in Games 1 and 2,” Kimel said. “That third game they started to push us more.”
But Williams ensured that the match didn’t extend to a fourth game.
State College (1-2) heads to Cocalico on Saturday.
