High School Sports

A call for inspiring athletes

Centre County’s high schools are filled with inspiring athletes.

And for the second consecutive year, the CDT will be honoring those athletes with our Inspiring Athletes Awards, recognizing the best of the best around the county.

Like last year when we launched the program, we need your help.

Candidates for the Inspiring Athletes Awards again will be drawn from Bald Eagle, Bellefonte, Penns Valley, Philipsburg-Osceola and State College area high schools as well as Centre County Christian Academy, Grace Prep and St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy.

We have identified potential candidates from our weekly Athlete of the Week feature, but we don’t want to miss anybody worthy of consideration.

You can help us out by nominating an inspiring athlete or two. Here’s how:

Go to www.centredaily.com/inspiring-athletes and fill out the short form. We will accept nominations through April 25.

A total of 40 athletes (20 boys and 20 girls) will be selected as semifinalists by the CDT’s sports staff.

From those athletes, 20 finalists (10 boys and 10 girls) will be selected and from that pool a boy and girl will be named our most Inspiring Athletes.

Finalists and winners will be announced and honored during a ceremony at 2 p.m. May 22, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. All athletes, friends, family and the public are welcome to attend.

Nominees and award winners will be profiled in a special section that will be published in the CDT on Sunday, May 29.
