State College tennis sweeps Red Land with ease

The State College boys’ tennis team swept every match in straight sets, and surrendered just one game in singles play, to blank Red Land 5-0 Monday.

Matt Sherley, Fernando del Castillo and Owen Moore all won their singles matches with ease, with Wherley winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for the only game surrendered among the three matches.

The doubles teams of Matt Bristol and Garrett Schoonmaker, and Aleef Mannan and Sankar Ramesh, won their matches in straight sets as well.

The Little Lions (8-0) have a key Mid Penn Conference battle with Cumberland Valley on Wednesday.

“The guys did a nice job today,” coach Jane Borden said. “We have a big test on Wednesday and we are looking forward to it.”
