State College boys’ tennis edges Cumberland Valley

It came down to the last match as the State College boys’ tennis team edged Cumberland Valley 3-2 to stay undefeated Wednesday.

“The guys had to come together as a team today and focus just on the task at hand, and they did that,” Little Lions coach Jane Borden said.

The match was tied 2-2 when the doubles team of Matt Bristol and Garrett Schoonmaker started its match. In three sets, the pair came out on top 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to secure the win for State College.

State College’s Nick Vanden and Owen Lloyd each earned wins in singles play.

“This was a really tough match but our team did exactly what they needed to do to come away with a win,” Borden said.

State College (9-0) will travel to Chambersburg on Friday.
