Macy Jones went 4 for 7 with two RBIs to help the Penn State softball team split its doubleheader with Illinois on Saturday at Beard Field.
The Nittany Lions fell 2-1 in the first game and beat the Fighting Illini 4-1 in the second game.
Jones’ sacrifice fly in the fourth inning accounted for the Nittany Lions’ lone run in the first game. Illinois responded with two runs in the fifth on an RBI triple by Nicole Evans and an RBI double by Annie Fleming.
Penn State’s Marlaina Laubach allowed two runs and eight hits in seven innings to take the loss.

In the second game, Jones led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run. Kristina Brackpool’s two-run home run in the fourth gave the Nittany Lions a 3-1 lead.
Madison Seifert pitched a complete game to earn the win, allowing just three hits and one run.
Penn State (29-22, 14-8) will finish the series and the regular season against Illinois on Sunday at 1 p.m.
